A recent study conducted by a team of professors and students from the Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur sheds light on the grim situation. 1. VNIT Nagpur’s research team has pointed out the cause

Landge, along with his team of first-year M Tech Transport and Engineering students at VNIT Nagpur, carried out a study from December 2022 to March 2023. Their goal was clear: “Through this research, we aim to assist stakeholders in improving road safety by providing a better understanding of the risks associated with the current road infrastructure and promoting data-driven decisions. The overarching goal of this study is to enhance the safety for all road users by providing a comprehensive evaluation of road network safety, identifying potential risks, and proposing corresponding solutions.”

The VNIT Nagpur research team outlined the causes of accidents, proposed solutions, and subsequently submitted a report to the Department of Transport for implementation.

2. Landge revealed

Landge revealed: “In-depth safety inspections were performed via site checks during both day and night as per IRC-SP-88-2019. Audit-related findings were summarized and presented in a standardized format. The layout of these evaluation reports, including the tabular presentation of audit findings, were also provided. All recommended changes and suggestions were given to mitigate future accident risks. Recommendations for all findings were then listed in a separate section, including driver instructions, proposed infrastructure modifications, and the installation of surveillance and speed cameras to deter speeding. Suggested recreational spots are recommended to give travelers a break from the monotony of driving.”
